Cecilia León de la Barra

Born in Mexico City, Mexico, 1975; lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico

I have been working as an independent designer and collaborating with other recognized designers and architects since 2000. My ideas come from constant research and the observation of everyday life, which I use and document for inspiration and then transform into new objects. My designs are inspired by the forms, color, and techniques of traditional folk arts and popular culture, which I translate into innovative and fresh designs. In 2010, I curated the design exhibition HECHO A MANO: Nuevos Procesos Colaborativos de Diseño (HANDMADE: New Collaborative Design Processes) at Casa del Lago, Mexico City, where I showed the work of Mexican designers who collaborated with local artisans and communities. In 2014, with Jorge Gardoni, I co-curated Copies: Transformation and Development in Creative Processes, at Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura in Mexico City.
