Tord Boontje, born in Enschede, Netherlands, 1968; lives and works in London, England;

Cooperativa de Trabalho Artesanal e de Costura da Rocinha Ltda. (Coopa- Roca), founded by Maria Teresa Leal, 1987, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;

Artecnica, founded by Enrico Bressan and Tahmineh Javanbakht, 1986, located in Los Angeles, USA

Artecnica’s vision is to introduce into the world’s artisanal communities two essential components: the designer and the project producer. A designer like Tord Boontje can dovetail the talents of artisans with the needs of the international market. Artecnica, as the project producer, oversees the art direction, logistics, and marketing necessary to develop a competitive product that will encourage the survival of indigenous craft. Design with Conscience, a program founded by Artecnica in 2002, matches internationally recognized designers with artisans in underdeveloped communities, invigorating commerce and assisting surrounding communities. The Come Rain, Come Shine chandelier was designed by Tord Boontje in London and manufactured in Brazil by Coopa-Roca, a women’s cooperative based in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro. Coopa- Roca generates business opportunities by increasing the production of goods by women in the Rocinha community while promoting the preservation of craft traditions.
